I started my Vista Ultimate x86 laptop this morning and when it got to the login screen, there was no user to choose from. I could not login. I used ctrl-alt-del, and every other groupng of keys I could think of, but no joy.
I installed the Vista DVD and tried to repair, but it found no problems. I did a restore, but the same problem.
I booted into SAFE mode and was able to log in. I created a new user, just to see if my profile was hosed, but the new user did not show up either.
Luckily I create an image every Friday of my boot drive, so re-imaging was no problem and I'm up and running.
The only thing I did new was install the Catalyst 8.1 drivers for the graphics card, but i did that on Wed. of last week and have run the laptop everyday since, without error. In fact I just looked at my reliability score yesterday, and was at 9.74. That was probably what caused this problem<grin>.
I do have the Novell Client installed, but I've had that since August/September 2007.
I searched for these systems on-line and have found no one else with this problem.
