How to set affinity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I was just looking at your Windows HPC page

We just finished setting up our 48 node Windows2008 HPC server. However when we run a job through the infiniband switch, it only runs on 24 of the 48 nodes. I was just wondering if you can give me step by step instructions on how to set affinity.

    Thank You

  • Hi,

Can you be more clear on what do you mean by "affinity"?

If you are talking about process affinity and if you are running MPI applications, MPI has an option to help you: "mpiexec -affinity ...". MPI will put process on proper physical cores.

The reason for that can very well be the type and number of resources you requested for with your job. In order to get help on that you have to add more details.

Regarding process and/or thread affinity to cores, Xavier Pillons from Microsoft has lots of great material on this subject, the slides of his most recent talk that I am aware of can be found here: https://sharepoint.campus.rwth-aachen.de/units/rz/HPC/public/Shared%20Documents/Xavier-Pillon.pdf

    Kind regards, Christian
