WLOC for VISTA PREMIUM 64-Bit RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Recently, everything seems to have gone Vista Premium and Ultimate 64-bit. I needed a new laptop and bought an expensive Windows Premium SP1 64-bit system with fairly serious 2 & 3D graphics programs which I require for work; needless to say, they come equipped with high-end GPU's - I just bought the ATI HD 3870 X2 and what they're doing is so much more stable and powerful than highest end nVidia cards it's ridiculous. That's the background.

I'm trialing the Comodo Firewall and Avira AntiVir Anti-Virus. They're great!

But I'd prefer to trial the WLOC for VISTA PREMIUM 64-bit before deciding whom I throw my money at for security.

However, I'm told that Microsoft's WLOC does not yet support VISTA PREMIUM 64-bit, ironic as that sounds.

    Does anyone know the story?

If so, can you please link me to a microsoft.com  or msdn.com page explaining and confirming WLOC is RTM for VISTA PREMIUM 64-bit? And where does one d/l the PREMIUM 64-bit WLOC trial please, with a link?

    Many thanks.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit all versions are supported by OneCare.

Check this link for further info regarding system requirements for onecare.

The only problem is, not quite sure if onecare will not conflict with the antivirus you are currently using.

You can try installing onecare from this location.

  • Avira AntiVir, like all full-featured antivirus programs, uses a memory-resident on-access scanner (called “Guard”) that will conflict with OneCare, so you should remove it before installing OneCare. The download version of OneCare will generally detect any conflicting programs and give you the option of cancelling the OneCare installation, or removing the conflicting program.

  • Thanks so much for the link! That's exactly what I needed. I knew there was something I had seen about WLOC incompatabilitry with 64-bit Windows, and the link clarified that it's true but only for XP ~ ah ha! lol

    WLOC/Vista Premium 64-bit is fully compatible. Great!Smile

P.S. To add substance to this string for people who might stumble upon it, it dawned on me that some might want to know why I'd want to switch from the best Windows a/v (av-comps) and f/w (matousec) programs to WLOC, it's primarily a software f/w thing. Comodo ~ to get the best out of it ~ is the most complex commercial f/w for the user to deploy networking and server settings / allowances. If you're behind a hardwall firewall and proxy server in addition, constant decisions must be made. And I just can't be bothered while designing my 2 and 3d stuff lol.

P.P.S. Developers hey! Try Microsoft's Silverlight in BETA! No, this is not a paid announcement lol. Silverlight is SOO un-Microsoft, it's like even more open source than open source lol. That and whatever you use from AUTODESK (MAYA et al) and you're good to go. Even better, if Microsoft keeps moving this puppy along to RTM, it'll slay ADOBE FLASH ~ yay! Stick out tongue
