vista diagnostic results - need to reactivate after hardware changes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently changed alot of hardware in my vista home premium OEM PC (including the motherboard, RAM and CPU, but not the hard drive). Now, vista thinks I have a pirated copy of vista. It says I need to activate it, but it is already in use on another computer. I have
formatted and reinstalled vista, but that only gave me extra time to reactivate.

I asked about this on another messageboard at tthis site and was given a diagnostics tool to use. Whne I used it, some information came up and I copied and pasted it here :

Answers

  • What you need to do is to reset/reactivate your Windows Vista installation using the telephone activation method:

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
(w/o the quotes) in the Start Search box in the Start Menu and pressing
    Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.
