DeFrag and OneCare tuneups RRS feed

  • Question

  • When the One Care tuneup runs,  it always wants to DeFrag the disk and proceeds to do so.   If I run DeFrag on its own, it says a DeFrag is not needed.   How do I get OneCare to skip the DeFrag?

  • Defrag cannot be disabled in One Care but if files are only minimally fragmented One Care defrag won't run for very long.

  • Would be nice if user could disable Defrag for tune-up, just like we can disable Remove unnecessary files from doing anything.

Is there any plans for speeding up tune-up, it takes forever ever.

  • Performance is always something that the OneCare team is looking to improve.

Note that this is unsupported, but if you are comfortable with a registry edit, this post provides a  possible workaround for you -

    Disable Defrag (registry edit) http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3031338&SiteID=2
