Windows not Genuine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Sorry for posting as part of an existing thread but I looked and looked and could not find where a new post option was for this subject.

    Hi Carey,

I have the same problem. I purchased this 3 or 5 user Win 7 64 bit Ultimate with license in July 2011 and it was verified as genuine and have been using it ever since.

About 2 months back after a windows update my computer wouldn't boot and using recovery tools and requesting to insert my original Win 7 CD, I did so. Did it reinstall Windows? As it didn't state it did.

My SSD was failing  I did an image copy after I got Windows working again in April, and used an image transfer to a new SSD. Could that have caused this incorrect message?)

Anyway been using this PC for 2 months with no problems and today requested to run Win verification which I did because I know I have a legitimate license, and now, after 3-4 yrs it states my Win 7 isn't legal? I ran your tool, and am pasting below as requested:

  • (I split out your question for you)

The installation is based on an OEMSLP Product Key - which is ONLY valid when used with the manufacturer's Recovery media on a machine that shipped with Windows 7 pre-installed.

This machine is based on a retail ECS motherboard, and cannot support such a Key.

Do you have the original packaging for your copy of Windows?

Does the Product Key on the package agree with what you can see of it in the report?

  • Hi Noel,

    Thank you for your help.

This is a legitimate windows 7 - when googling this issue, I finally saw one that made sense - a move to new hardware.

My SSD was failing  I did an image copy after I got Windows working again about 6 weeks back and used an image transfer to a new SSD. I called MS and they advised that caused this incorrect message and got me working again.

    Regards,

    Bob

  • Changing the hard drive does not cause the errors seen in your report.

Changing the motherboard does - and MS doesn't usually allow re-activation on new motherboards for this license type

Your installation of Office is definitely counterfeit.
