  • Your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook has a Windows Vista Home Premium license that belongs to an Asus notebook.  You cannot use this license on an HP computer.  Please contact HP and order the correct Windows Vista recovery/reinstallation discs.  Please see: Order HP Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP

Where did you get this version of Vista to install on your HP Pavilion Notebook?  It was not an original install made by HP.  You have an Asus OEM disk trying to install onto an HP notebook. This won't work.

What kind of license was originally installed onto this notebook, look at the COA on the bottom of the laptop for it?  Tell us what it says for Windows Version - DO NOT post the key listed there.  Does it have HP's name on the label also?

  • OK thanks for the additional info.  As I am "new" to activation issues I am hoping that Noel, Carey or Darin will post back.  I think I know the reason and answer but I don't want to lead you down the incorrect path to a resolution.

Apparently, someone who had access to your computer used an Asus Windows Vista recovery disc to install the software on the computer.  Did anyone have access or use your computer recently?

How about doing all of us a favor and rerunning the MGADiag report again with the fix in place.  I would be interested to see the changes made.
