Printer sharing and firewall settings - is there a security issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Now I have Ver 2.0 on both our computers, Its a joy to be able to access the main computers printer and hard disk from the lap top.

But to get this to happen I had to set the firewall to share over the internet - was this necessary or had I missed another way?

Are there any safety risks from this setting?

I  use WPA - this works fine with OneCare.

I am reassured by the fact that Shileds Up cannot tell that print and file sahring is permitted!

  • If you are behind a router, there should be no security issues at all. In addition, OneCare sees your network as a home or work location, I assume, meaning that it has opened up functionality while you are connected to your network.
