WHS Newb questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm looking to build a new WHS for my home.  I don't want to spend a fortune for this but would like something efficient.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. What is the min. cpu requirements?

    2. Do I need a video or sound card?  I suspect not but need to ask.

    3. I plan using this with xbox 360 and sonos.  Any issues?

    4. Can I load actual software on it? eg. games, MS word, excel etc.. so the other computers can have access.

    Thank you,

    M1

  • See the Getting Started document for hardware requirements.

You should be able to play at least some of your media on your XBox. With the most recent release of the Sonos software, WHS is apparantly supported, so you should be good to go there as well.

Windows Home Server isn't a desktop operating system, so no, you shouldn't load games, Word, etc. on your server. You could store copies of your installation media on the server.
