First off let me say I understand RAID is not supported. Seems dumb to me but I understand why they disabled such features.
I LOVE data redundancy however, especially considering I leave mine on 24/7. My question is that I am looking at swapping and doing MAJOR computer "remodeling". I have an Adaptec 31205 not doing anything right now. Since this is HARDWARE RAID as apposed to SOFTWARE RAID, is there a reason that this shouldnt work with 3 - 4 drive raid 10 arrays. WHS would still see 3 "physical hard drives" at 2 TB each. Why wouldn't this work?
My Setup would be:
TYAN S5162G2NR Mobo Intel E5200 CPU 4 GB Corsair 667 12 WD Black 1Tb SATA on board vid Dual onboard NIC Teamed (hopefully!! any thoughts on if this is even possible)
Also waiting for an EBAY deal on a managed switch, wanting a 3com superstacker III 10/100/1000 if anyone has any leads on that, as linksys home stuff doesn't cut it with 6 computers running.
It should work, yes. It's possible that you'll have trouble installing drivers, or configuring something, and I would strongly suggest if you decide to use RAID you test server recovery scenarios now so you'll know what to do if the time comes. But it should work.
Teamed NICs? As long as the operating system sees only a single network connection, probably you'll have no trouble. It's not supported, however.I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
