Loading of resolution data offline say overnight RRS feed

  • Question

  • With WWT is there a way of getting the higher resolution data downloaded without having to visit each location, wait till it is loaded then go to the next.

The reason is that I want to setup for showing mars sites to some students, without having to wait for the higher resolution data to download. (not having a high speed internet, this takes too long in a classroom situation)

  • It is impractical to "Download the whole dataset", and it would take more than overnight. The Mars dataset itself is 15TB, add Earth, and the various sky datasets, you better have a spare PB haging around. Everything you look at is cached locally, the more you use it the faster it gets. You can also setup a caching proxy in your school, and eventually most of the request will be served from cache, and very fast.

We do get this request often, and we may eventually have a way to get big chunks of data to local sites, but not over the network! Fedex is currently the fasted data transport known to man!
