What to do about some using the same copy of Win 7 on many computers? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've just learned from my dear old Mom, has had Windows 7 installed by my ne'er do well brother. He installed the same copy on my brothers PC, and I've been told he's been supplementing his unreported income spreading the same copy of Win 7 all around San Antonio, and openly admits to doing so.

How to stop this?  Talking to him does no good, as he has no morals what so ever.

  • Think twice before you get overinvolved with another family member's activities.  In my experience it leads to more grief than its worth.  Having said that, you can report the matter by email to piracy@microsoft.com.

The following site focuses on corporate piracy but has an online form which will be routed appropriately at Microsoft.

You can also use the chat function, Ask Microsoft, towards the bottom of this page

You should NOT give any identifying information about your brother in any public forum.  If you have used your real name as your handle here, then you are already in danger of violating your brother's privacy.  Change your handle to something like Joe123 or something completely annonymous.

  • No, not my real name. Obviously you are not a Red Green fan.
I paid for mine. Did you pay for yours?

  • I have to admit, I didn't catch the reference at first

For those that still don't know what we are talking about, here is the wikipedia link for the show and the character. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Green_Show#Hap_Shaughnessy

"The title character, Red Green (Steve Smith), is a handyman who tries to find [usually over the top] shortcuts to most of his projects, trusting most of his work to duct tape. He is the president of the Possum Lodge, a fictional men's club in the small northwestern Ontario town of Possum Lake, near the also-fictional town of Port Asbestos. He and his fellow lodge members had their own TV show in which they gave lessons and demonstrations in repair work and outdoor activities, and advice for men."

Very funny show if you get a chance to watch it.
