Yes, someone at one time had a valid license. It is doubtful that you ever did but Microsoft just caught up and blocked the invalid use of the key.

Enterprise is a volume licensed version of Office that is normally only sold to large corporations, academic or governmental entities.  It may be sold through those companies as a Home Use Program or Work at Home program.  If you are part of that structure you need to contact our IT department at the business to have them figure out why the product was blocked.

If this came with the computer and it was a purchase from a private individual or a no-name reseller then they installed the program improperly.
A key is blocked by Microsoft when they find that the license is stolen, pirated, abused, the license expires or the company that has the license requests it to be blocked.

Either way, to become legal you need to uninstall the Enterprise software and purchase a valid Office install from a reputable company.

I bought a computer with Vista on it less than two years ago.  I thought that Office came with it at the time.  I had it on there and I never got a message about it not being genuine.  I updated to Windows 7 and since then I have been getting messages about it not being genuine.  I followed the link mentioned in another post and this is what it said.

    Was Office ever genuine?

I purchased the HP computer from Best Buy and I thought the software came with it.

  • Hello cccur,

You wrote, "I purchased the HP computer from Best Buy and I thought the software came with it."

Yes, it's very common for new computers purchased at major retailers to come with a Trial installation of Microsoft Office, most frequently the Office Home and Student 2007 or 2010 edition.  Since your purchase was made two years ago, if there was a Trial installed it would have been an edition of Office 2007.

However, looking at your report, it shows that no such Trial edition of Office 2007 is installed.  The only Office that the utility can see is the nongenuine Volume Licensing installation of Office Enterprise 2007.  This type of Office product would NEVER be preinstalled by HP on a computer destined for sale at a major retailer like Best Buy.

It's more likely that your computer came from HP with a Trial of Office 2007, and sometime between then and now the Trial was uninstalled and this nongenuine Office Enterprise 2007 was installed, probably at the same time the original Vista was removed and your current systembuilder/OEM license for Windows 7 Professional was installed.
