Funny windows 7 activation problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • My laptop come with Windows 7 HP and I bought a license key for Windows 7 Professional as I need to use the XP virtual mode a year ago..two days ago..I run the windows update and after the update has been done successfully, I was running the Microsoft Essential for a complete Full scan in the system overnight..the next day morning, the windows 7 show as not activated with a message of the key is not a valid or software counterfeit..I contacted the software vendor as to resolve this issue and he free issue another key for me it failed the activation and also the WGA validation..

I am so upset as I am not sure whether is this cause by malware or virus as mention by the software vendor. So I restore the system to the date when I run the windows update..the system was back to normal with showing the new product ID based on the new key given.. I run the WGA program again and this time it show as genuier.. May I know what could cause such a problem? I will try to use back the old key shortly after I finishing the sfc /scannow and just a note, the WGA showing this is a retail version and not the MSDN blah blah version as I trust the software vendor will not sell pirate software..

Please help and advice as if my laptop is infected by virus, I will plan to reformat it and activate windows again..thanks.

  • I confirm that both Windows are using MSDN Product Keys.

The licensing for MSDN Product Keys is that only the owner, of the MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) Subscription that a specific MSDN Key originated from, are allowed to use the MSDN key.

    So either:

    a) You are the owner of the specific MSDN Subscription(s) that these Product Key originated from and as such are authorized to use them.  In which case, I recommend contacting MSDN support to resolve why the keys have been Blocked.

    or

    b) You are not the owner of the MSDN Subscription Subscription(s) that these Product Key originated from and as such are Not authorized to use them which makes the keys Non-Genuine. In which case, please see Noel's post and links (above) for further information.

    Thank you,

  • Also the other funny things I found is that I also use the volume license tools to validate the product ID previously, it was working before but I am not sure why is it now block by Microsoft..why is Microsoft block it without any notice? The software vendor also told me that my gmail account might be hack and this is why someone has taken my product ID and activate more than once which cause the product ID to be block..is this a valid statement? As I thought the product ID will be just matching my computer HW..in a certain manner..but in this case, no one should be able to activate it again after I had activate it using my one laptop?? correct me if I am wrong..

I had tried again the old key..and it failed to activate with the error code of 0xC004C003 which means the activation server has block this product key..but whats the reason?? Below is the result after I run the MGA

Unfortunately your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key, and do NOT allow them to waste time with an RMA (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

  • How to determine? cause I had used the old key for a year..and I run the MGA it show as retail version and why is it become MSDN version??

The 221 in the product ID tells the story.  Both are 221 and are MSDN and not for resale.

  • Please post the full report from the MGADiag tool you ran before. A key can be genuine but not valid for the copy of Windows installed. Such a case would be an MSDN subscriber's product key used by someone other than the subscriber. You never know until you get your report checked by some of the gurus who hang out here.

Your problem is almost certainly that your vendor sold you a non-genuine license.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

  • One very last question..just curious if the product key transferable to another computer? If yes, what is the proper procedure of doing so?

  • One very last question..just curious if the product key transferable to another computer? If yes, what is the proper procedure of doing so?

Your 'new' key is an MSDN not-for-resale key - and is therefore counterfeit.
So no - it's not transferable.

    Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):

    -----------------------------------------

    Windows Validation Data-->

    Thank you,

    Darin MS
