Installing OCS on a separate Domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys

I have a Forest and a child domain has asked for OCS however the parent company will not allow the schema updates.

My thinking is to build a separate domain and have it trust however I have heard something called a resource domain? Does anybody have any information on this?

    Cheers

  • Hi,
It's definitely possible to have OCS be in it's own domain. But you'll still need to extend the entire forest schema no matter what domain you putOCS in.

To avoid modifying the schema, you'll need to set up a new forest and set up a trust between the OCS "resource" forest and your production forest. It's not simple, but defintitely can be done: I've had pretty good success doing it a couple times.

Here's the doc that I followed:

But my personal take is that the schema extension is not a huge deal... I've always had great success with it.

    Hope that helps!
