WGA error in IE 7 when trying to download Windows Defender RRS feed

  • I just re-installed Windows XP Pro on my computer today and when I try to download Windows Defender, the WGA validation checker gives me an error in my Internet Explorer and causes it to close.

     

    After installing XP, I downloaded SP2 and all the other critial updates as well as a few optional.  When I try to download Windows Defender from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134 , I click on continue to begin Windows validation, the following error pops up:

     

    Internet Explorer has encountered and problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
