Site Rankings & Indexing in MSN

Question
-
I work for an SEO company with a portfolio of around 40 sites.
We are getting increasingly frustrated by the search results in MSN, it tends to be extremely slow at indexing new sites and slow at crawling/ updating the search results.
Does anyone else share the same problem?
Verifying and uploading sitemaps using the MSN webmaster tools seems to make little or no difference.
One of out websites: http://www.soles4u.com is a new site but the domain has been around for several years. It is currently not indexed in MSN.
Another site http://www.whittonlodge.co.uk/ seems to rank well for certain keywords one month but then will drop around 50-100 places or disapear completely from the results for no reason.
Both sites are fine in Google and Yahoo..

Hi Edward,
I've placed a request to remove the parked domain flag, so hopefully the site will be indexed soon. Looking at the results for b&b Derbyshire, the site is ranked 6th in live.com/ 3rd in live.co.uk. For "bed and breakfast in Chesterfield", the site is ranked 20th or so in live.com, but ranked 8th in live.co.uk. For "b&b Chesterfield", the site is ranked 6th in Live.com and 2nd in live.co.uk.

Yes! You are not alone
I 'used to be' a big fan of MS Live Search. New sites were indexed quickly, beating the competition. Sites were placed well in the results - ahead of all the local-index type sites as they should be. But that was a while ago
Since this summer I've seen exactly what you describe for many of my sites.
One of the symptoms going around seems to be that the site shows up using the site: command but can't be found by typing in the full address. Your www.whittonlodge.co.uk site shows this problem (as I post this message).
23 pages shown as listed using site: but if a visitor should type your domain into the search field (as some people do unfortunately, rather than the browser address field) then I can only see references to your site, and not your actual site!
I can also see things changing week by week - I wish 'they' would just use the algorithm they had at the start of the year! - MS are allegedly focussing on Search at the moment to catch up with the others, perhaps they are trying too hard?!
I'm hoping things will change soon...
Luckily my clients all seem to use Google so it's not embarrassing me

Hi,
I would like to help you with these issues. When did soles4u.com go live? Right now it is flagged as a parked domain which might be why it has not been indexed. Also, what keywords are you targeting for Whittonlodge?
Thanks,
Brett

Hi Brett.. Thanks for offering to help!
The new Soles4u site has been live since around March. The site has been ranking well in Google and Yahoo, but it is yet to rank for any of their keywords in MSN! This is confusing - looking in the MSN webmaster tools it is picking up the pages.
Some examples of their keywords include:
large size womens shoes
large womens shoes
large women shoes
ladies wide fitting shoes
womens wide shoesThe Whitton Lodge seems quite erratic in the MSN search results. Their main keywords that I check the rankings for on a monthly basis are:
b&b derbyshire
bed and breakfast in chesterfield
b&b chesterfieldFor example, "b&b derbyshire" this year has ranked:
J:30
F:44
M:44
A:100+
M:100+
J:67
J:17
A:21
S:63
O:47In Yahoo the site has constantly ranked in the top 5 and in Google it has constantly ranked between 10-20.
What do you think?

Hello Brett,I have a similar problem. My site has about 5000 pages http://www.lampspecs.co.uk, and usually Live only has about 50 indexed. the site is not new having been around for over 3 years in its current form. We are fully indexed by Google and Yahoo, but Live just won't index us.Can you give me a clue why that should be?Thanks,Paul.Monday, November 24, 2008 7:39 PM
