Desktop settings

  We have a computer that is used by special needs child. She has manged to trash settings so that programs she use & enjoys get totally lost. Rebooting the computer use to reset everything but shes messed that up too. So her parents & caregivers can get some relief from constantly re-establishing the desktop I need to create a desktop that contains only two or three selected icons, no task bar & no right click mouse, everything needs to be tamper proof.
  
  I believe this can be accomplished with registry settings but I'm not that familiar with them to attempt it without some advice.
  
  The computer has winxp sp3
  
  Can anyone please advise.
