the product key you typed is already in use?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • A little confused. I'm getting "the product key you typed is already in use"

I have proof of purchase through circuit city and windows marketplace. I used the digital locker.

is it because I can only activate once within 24hrs. I reinstalled because an error I received

for having the wrong system date.

  • problem solved.I did a telephone activation which failed - then was automatically connected to a tech who then gave me the code to reactivate.

    as per your question

yes an no. initially I attempted to upgrade, but it failed. because I have windows xp64 business?

it allowed me to do a clean install. I've made two other succesdul installs afterwords. it just looks

for a windows installation and it can be an incomplete vista installation.

    Hi Trexx69,

From the diag it appears that you purchased an upgrade version of Windows Vista Home Premium.  I am assuming that you upgraded from Windows XP.

In this case the correct procedure for a to install the upgrade version of Vista is to reinstall the previous OS (in this case I am assuming Windows XP) and then run the upgrade from inside the running XP Operating System.

The caution here is to verify that you have your data backed up prior to the reinstall.

You indicated that you had to reinstall. Can you tell me if you followed this process when you perform the reinstall?

    Thanks,
