  • Question

  • ...... the same thing everyone has been complaining about :

all of a sudden vista wants to activate windows on my newly bought acer aspire with pre-installed vista home premium (full). there was the update disk that came with the laptop that I used with the given product key at the bottom side, no pop-up or soever telling me that the vista hadn't activated right.

and now after a while a message came out telling me there are 6 days left to activate windows.

I tryed typing my product key and the automated phone option but nothing seems to work.

it says the product key was invalid.
also the genuine validation page and my report log state that everything is valid, but i still cannot activate vista.

so what do I do now?                  many other people seem to have complain about the same thing, so I don't think its an isolated issue, stil even though I searched all possible threads I didn't find a solution.

I hope someone can help me. 10x in advance

  • Hi da6a_9,

It appears that to resolve your issue, you must Activate Windows using the "Activate by Phone" method. Please follow the below option that that best fix your given issue scenario:

    a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type "c:\windows\system32\slui.exe" press enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

    Thank you,
