Genuine Validation - Not Activated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I've got a Windows XP Pro copy from my tertiary institute (free under the Microsoft Tertiary program). I have installed it twice. Had to do a reformat once and then re-installed it back onto the same machine.

I now get the usual your windows may not be legal etc etc...

Very annoyed as it is not letting me activate using my original licence key. I heard that there have been issues with VLK's but what do i need to do to fix this problem. The failure code is: 0x80080201

I'm also getting that - windows needs to be activated message. I can't activate using the original key. Microsoft please sort this out or else it will just encourage us to use patches and registry hacks!

This KB article will give more information about activation.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307890

Please try this and let us know if you are able to activate.

Also, your copy of Office is not genuine. I would recommend heading back to your retail point to remedy the situation before any further issues occur.

    Thanks!
