Problem with reformatting+updating key

Question
-
Hello everybody,
First of all I'd like to thank microsoft's excellent support to all of its users.
My problem arises from having to re-format my harddisk because of a problem of a program that didn't stop crashing. (Xilinx, used in my university)
I used the link that comes to update the key before formatting. So when I tried that again after sorting everything out it says the following:
"The new key of the product that you're using for the updates has been used previously or it's currently in use."
Here there's a screenshot:

Thank you very much,
Cristián
PD: I had to boot from a crappy CD from something called Ubuntu to be able to run my internet wireless conection and msn to ask my mates about it.

Hi CCG,
You are permitted to reinstall and activate XP as many times as you want to, as long as your use of XP maintains compliance with the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).
After a certain number of activations within a certain time period, automatic online activation will be suspended (This will also happen the first time you re-install and activate some OEM versions of Windows XP), which will require that you do a Telephone Activation. To do so, rerun the Activate Windows Wizard and select "Activate my product using the telephone". Follow the phone prompts.
If the automated telephone activation is not accepted, you will be offered the option to speak with a live activation representative. Choose that option. The rep will ask a few questions for the purpose of confirming that you are still using your license for XP in accordance with the EULA. If this is confirmed, the rep will issue an activation code for you to enter into the Activation Wizard.
Thank you,
Darin Smith

I phoned Microsoft and after telling them that I couldn't carry out that step they told me that it must be a problem of the company that distributed the laptop.
But, I'm wondering if, would there be any chances to do the internet activation again?Wednesday, April 4, 2007 11:55 AM -
Yvonne,
If you purchased a genuine license for Windows XP from an online school, you should have received a genuine Product Key.
May I suggest contacting the school?
