Long loading time for Money RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have lately noticed that money takes a long time to load. This can be upto 30sec and I can hear the hard drive "ticking".

I am using Plus Deluxe ver 17 (sunset)

  • Set up the Windows Firewall to stop Money from waiting for servers that don't exist anymore.

  • I do not use windows firewall. I use Bitdefender (for a long time now) and have not had the issue before.

  • You really do; it's built in. Here are some notes, which you may find of use or not.

Simply run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" which you will
    find in Windows Administrative Tools,

     Click on "Outbound Rules",
    select "New Rule" >

     select "Program" >
     select "This Program" and
    browse for the path
(which should be something like one of these:

     "c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe") >
      [ "%ProgramFiles\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe"
      [  %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe]
      !do not click enter key!
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe
    %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe

    Action:Block
     select
"Block this connection" > leave the defaults >

      and then name your
new rule something like "Microsoft Money block outbound".  Simply
run "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" which you will find
in Windows Administrative Tools, Click on "Outbound Rules", select
"New Rule" > select "Program" > select "This Program" and browse
for the path (which should be "c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Microsoft
Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe") > select "Block this
connection" > leave the defaults > and then name your new rule
something like "Microsoft Money block outbound".

Click Finish at the end. Expect red keep-out symbol in front of name
    to show Action:Block.

  • One more thing. If your hard drive is ticking louder than it used to, consider replacing the hard drive. Or at least consider your backup procedures, allowing for a failed hard drive.

SSDs are faster. They are cheaper than they used to be. Makes for a nice performance upgrade. You clone the old drive onto the SSD, then put the old hard drive on a shelf as a backup.

    Cal

You hit the nail on the head! I use SSD as well as standards HDs. Moved Money to SSD and there is some improvement now.
