Validation Status: Blocked VLK RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello recently my brother bought a copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 for his laptop. On the CD case it said that it was licensed for use on up to 3 personal computers. He managed to install it fine on his laptop which had vista and then I decided to install it on my computer (XP). I installed it fine, entering the Key inside the CD Case. I then downloaded all the security updates from the Microsoft website.

However whenever I start up my computer a message comes up saying: Office Genuine Advantage has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Then when I load up Microsoft Word it says this copy of Microsoft Office has not been activated etc.
I clicked on the Office Logo in the top-left corner of the screen, went onto Word Options and when I clicked the activate button it says "This product has already been activated"

I looked up the error message online and I clicked the MGA Diagnostic Tool and the report comes up on the first line saying Validation Status: Blocked VLK.
Also below it shows my product key which doesn't match the product key inside the CD Case.

    Please help. :)

  • Hello Cyberking1,

Sketzii does have a nongenuine installation of XP Pro on his/her computer, but at the moment we don't know if s/he needs to purchase a WGA Kit.

If Sketzii tells us there is a CoA on the computer for Windows, we may be able to have him/her run the PK Updater, or use a genuine hologrammed CD or recovery CD to put genuine Windows back onto the computer.

If Sketzii has no CoA on the computer and does not have retail materials for Windows, then it would be likely that Sketzii would need to purchase a WGA Kit or other wise purchase a genuine Windows license to install on his/her computer.

  • Hello Sketzii,

Right now, your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of XP Pro installed (Line 10), and that installation was done with a now blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) (Line 2).  VLKs are blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original key holder for such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired.  Also, Microsoft may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, i.e., more installations of XP using that key than authorized.

Volume Product Keys are subject to Volume License Agreements, which can expire, causing a previously installation of XP one day to become nongenuine the next day.

As a rule, VL editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers.  Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers.  Additionally, VL editions are Upgrade licenses ONLY, and therefore cannot be used as the primary or base license for a computer.

This is why you were seeing the "software counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of XP is an unauthorized installation.

Look on the computer or in the materials that came with your computer to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).  If you have one, tell us about the CoA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or another version or edition of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key printed on the CoA.

    5.  Windows XP purchased in retail packaging will have the CoA on the retail package box top, and will have the Product Key on a yellow-orange label affixed to the CD holder folder inside the box.

Not sure what to look for?  Click here:  http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=coa

By the way, there is nothing wrong with your installation of Office H&S 2007, it is showing as a Genuine installation of a retail license, 100% Good to Go.
