Automatic Updates not working correctly.

Question
-
Hi,
I logged on to my WHS this evening only to be notified that there was an update available to install.
I have updates set to automatic so was surprised that the single update had been downloaded but not installed without my intervention.
Is this a common problem that anyone else has encountered, or is there a setting that I need to change.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks, JasonWednesday, March 25, 2009 9:14 PM

I have updates set to check for and install any available updates at 7.00am everyday.
As far as I am aware it has been updating/restarting correctly since I installed it, about 2 weeks now, but I noticed the prompt to install an update just the other night when I logged on to the server desktop.
I believe that PP2 had been installed on that day but didn't realise this at the time I noticed the update prompt so I'm wondering whether that had anything to do with it.
All I really want to work out is why if I have updates set to automatic did I get the prompt to install the update and restart the server.
Surely if it's set for automatic download/installation it should have installed that update and restarted the server without my intervention - if I hadn't logged on to the server when I did it may have taken several days before the update completed.
Most likely it downloaded between 7:00 am that morning and the time when you logged into the desktop. You can see when it downloaded by checking the event logs.- Proposed as answer by kariya21Moderator Thursday, March 26, 2009 11:56 PM

If an update requires you to agree to an End User License Agreement, you will be prompted as you describe, as Microsoft can't legally install those updates silently.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by Ken WarrenModerator Wednesday, March 25, 2009 9:24 PM

Ah, but I wasn't required to agree to anything, I just clicked on the update message and it installed on it's own.
I then had to initate a restart but that was it - so is this correct operation, doesn't seem to be to me ?Wednesday, March 25, 2009 9:29 PM -

Are you installing through the Console or through the server desktop?Thursday, March 26, 2009 1:41 AMModerator -
