Suggestion: Restores should have intelligence if destination drive has changed... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Restores should to whatever extent possible examine the new destination hard drive and evaluate if it is large enough based on the backup size versus original drive.  My scenario was RAID 0 stripe drive failed, of 2-250Gb's; wanted to pull one drive, remove RAID, restore a 180Gb backup without buying a new drive.  Not sure how technically possible this is with the 'image' restore from WHS.  Currently, I understand that the WHS restore must be to mimimally the same drive size that existed at the time of backup.
