Server Backup vs File Mirror RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello.  My question is this.  I have two 400gb drives (one of them the primary) and a 1TB drive added as well to the pool.  I have had a second hard drive that I was just copying and pasting all of my shares to since I was afraid of file duplication (I had a drastic failure before PP1).  So now that I just did a reinstall and have moved my files back to the main pool, should I just add my last 1tb drive to the pool and use file duplication or is it better to choose server backup instead?  I do not know what is the better option.  Thanks up front!!

  • In my opinion, you want to back up your shares regularly to some medium that you can store off-site. Until you've done this you're protected against single drive failure, but not fire, flood, theft, major storm, etc.

So I'd use the drive for server backup.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
