windows 7 copy not genuine

Question
-
Hi, I bought a laptop from a big UK retailer last October, I have had no problems with it up until today when I got a message on the bottom right hand corner saying Windows 7, Build 7600, this copy of Windows is not genuine. Im assuming that the Windows is genuine as it is from a big retailer and it was pre installed. I dont want to have to pay for an upgrade or to reinstall as im pretty sure this one should be genuine. Im not the best with computers so maybe Im just being thick? Can anyone help or tell me why this is happening especially after 7 months of no problems? I have tried active windows through start and search however I get the message "windows must be restored, an unauthorised change was made to windows. You must reinstall or restore windows system files to activate" I have also tried system restore but still have the same problem
Any suggestions as what to do next?

I wish I could say that something has changed :)I think the best thing would be for you to contact WGA support direct - hopefully it'll be free.North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4
Outside North America:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0
Please let us know if MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

Validation should not take that long.
Try validating using Internet Explorer if your not already doing so.
Make sure to allow the ActiveX scripts etc it should prompt you if you want to allow them or not.
@ vicks24You really should have started your own thread to ask for assistance. But I'll answer you here.
Your copy of Windows 7 is Pirated. You are using a Gigabyte Motherboard with a Win 7 Dell Ultimate OEM SLP Serial.
Your Bios information is also showing as having a HP OEM SLIC Table. An illegal activation hack called a loader has been used on your system.
To spoof your system as being OEM SLIC 2.1 pre-activated. It has incorrectly given you the wrong Manufacturer SLIC and OEM SLP serial for your system.
You will need to purchase a genuine copy of Windows 7 from the Microsoft Store.

Hi, Thanks for your help with this, I ran the scan as you said and then tried to validate it through your link however it was trying to validate it for over an hour so I gave up, should I have more patience with it and let it run for longer?
Sorry for all the quesions
Try the Validation Diagnostics - www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag - see what they have to say, and follow any advice - then try the Validation again. Post back with a new MGADiag report.

Hi, Thanks, I have run the diagnostics and everything apart from the ActiveX passed, there were no instructions on how to rectify this but I went in to tools - internet options - security - interent zone - custom level - and ActiveX control and plug ins were enabled as was script Activex control marked safe for scripting. Is there anything else I need to do? It seems that it should be something so simple but my computer is just not playing ball with any of the ideas!Monday, May 16, 2011 1:44 AM

So - ActiveX is the source of the problem.... I suspect there is an Anti-Virus or Firewall getting in the way - what are you using? Check the settings, and exclusions.

Ah - the magic words NIS again. My preference would be never to let anything labeled Norton anywhere near my PC's - but it's your choice, and your money. You need to check the settings in the NIS Firewall and see if there's anything there that may be blocking ActiveX connections. You should also check with their support forums to see if you can find any similar problems, and if not, post a query there.Darin may have some advice to offer when he gets in to the office - or someone else may have an idea what the problem is.
