huh? my program will not open properly RRS feed

  • Question

  • Thanks for your help and suggestions.

So, first I click on the onecare icon.

I get the following message: This tool will attempt to remove your pc from your subscription so that you can activate with another windows live ID.

This is the livecare remove tool.

    Continue or cancel?

If I cancel, the program does not open. If I continue, I get a user agreement.

If I cancel, nothing happens. If I agree, I get a start or cancel option to remove the pc from my subscription.

If I agree, I get a message that the onecare remove machine tool failed. to make sure I have connectivity, blah, blah.

why won't my program just open?

    Thanks

  • Thanks everyone who helped. It turned out that there was an error 39 that occurred on microsoft's part that day.

I fixed it and now I have onecare.

  • Do you see onecare icon on your system tray?

Its a circular icon with the number 1 inside, try double clicking on it to open onecare.

Or from start> all programs> Windows Live OneCare.

You might have downloaded a tool for onecare, based on your message you are actually running a remove machine.exe file.

Also to verify if onecare is installed in your computer.

    Go to the control panel.

    Open add/remove programs.

Verify if Windows Live OneCare is present in the list.

If not... Try installing onecare from http://onecare.live.com

  • Thanks

I have tried to open onecare from the system tray and the start > all programs and both still run the remove machine.exe thing.

I also looked in control panel and onecare is there and installed.

I clicked again on onecare and it still refuses to open properly. But the weird thing is, it is now running its scheduled tune-up.

I would appreciate anymore suggestions anyone might have.

  • Wow! Weird!

    Try uninstalling and re-installing onecare

Use this link, save the onecare cleanup tool first. Then run it.

    After uninstalling onecare.

    Install it back through http://onecare.live.com

After installing, subscribe again using your Live ID

If that won't fix the issue please post back.

    Thank You.

  • Hi.

    So I uninstalled OneCare.

When I attempt to reinstall it (which I have tried twice), error 0039-80508007 pops up and says that the OneCare could not install properly.

    Then the cleanup tool runs.

I looked for this error type in the automated self-help tool and can't find what it is. I wish that there was a live phone number to call for this. I'm lost.

Since I uninstalled the program I don't have any protection on my computer either.

  • I think you had the unfortunate timing of running into a problem with the current download. The OneCare team is investigating an increase in the 0039 error you encountered, which means that a problem was encountered in downloading/installing the latest virus signature database during the install.

For support -  Unofficial path - send me an email at sboots@mvps.org with a subject line including "OneCare" (to get past my spam filtering) and in the message body, tell me what country you are in, your forum nickname, and paste this link http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3530784&SiteID=2. I am not online 24x7 ( I am about to go off line for the night...), so you may be waiting for a reply, but I'll do my best to hook you up with support.
