Clicking on contributions from Profile page brings up Expression branded content RRS feed

  • Question

  • If you go into your "My Profile" page, and then click on any the threads in your "Contributions" (bottom left side of profile page), then it brings up pages from http://forums.expression.microsoft.com instead of http://forums.msdn.microsoft.com  .  It has all the content that it is supposed to, except that it is Expression "branded", i.e. the top bar shows the Expression bitmap instead of the MSDN bitmap.

Must be a holdover from the days when the Expression groups were the only groups in these these new forums.

  • There is some logic here :)

When a forum is created it is given a default host brand. Most of the time a forum only shows up in it's default brand, but there are some forums that are shared amongst all. Bug Reporting and Suggestions forums being that case and I'm thinking when they were originally set up they were given the Expression brand as the default host.

There are a few reasons for a default brand one for search crawlers so we don't get duplicate search index entries for the same thread only differing by brand. Another being our Feeds so the logic is simplified when determining how to construct the url for a thread. The Profile page uses a feed as the source for those "Contributions" containers.

If, from the profile page, you were to click on a thread that was from a forum such as VC++ then you'd go the the MSDN branding.

  • The Profile page has been updated, and so this bug no longer exists. Thanks!
