Syncing folders, applying function to files? RRS feed

  • Question

  • What I'd like to do is:
    1. Have a master folder of files (e.g. lossless audio or RAW photo files, arranged in subfolders)
    2. Synchronize this to a slave folder, applying a specified function f to each file (e.g. lossy audio compression to a DAP, change image resolution and color space to a mobile phone or HTPC)
I take it that SyncToy doesn't allow for this? In that case could anyone tell me what the best approach is?

  • Hi -

You will need to write your application to do this but take a look at using the File Sync Provider to do this. There are events that are fired at the beginning and end of the file transfer. You can apply you function f when the event is fired notifying you that the file has been finished copying.

    Deepa ( Microsoft Sync Framework)
