Windows 7 not genuine RRS feed

  • Windows Professional SP1, says it is activated but not genuine.  I have several machines like this in a small school district.  We bought Dell lattitude laptops, set one up and then created an image of it and cloned it onto the rest.  We have about a dozen machines out of a total of 90 that are behaving this way.   I would either like to use the win 7 product key that is on the bottom of each lattitude that is a problem or I could use the the WIn 7 pro key the school district owns a volume license.  Either way I can not find a way to change the product key.  This is a problem for us as we can not get our windows updates.  Can you help?

    Yes, when I right click on my computer and go to properties, it says window is activated, but in the bottom right corner there is a graphic that says "Ask for Genuine Microsoft Software".  Under that it says Learn more online, when you click that it brings me to a microsoft page that wants me to buy genuine microsoft.  This computer does take window updates, unlike the ones above.
     
    That is perfectly normal for an activated system – you seem to be good to go.

    I think we actually have two problems in this report -
    1) Vistalizator, as Carey says
    2) another problem which seems to be affecting more people lately, which is causing another long list of file mismatches.
     
    Use the link that Carey mentioned to sort out the Vistalizator problem first, and post another MGADiag report for review before we attempt to fix the second problem.

  • The article Carey suggests, had me check the registry for a second language installed.  I found the only language installed to be en-US.  From there the article says that "If only one language appears under this subkey, ... the information that is provided in this article will not resolve your issue.  I did not post another MGADiag report because I did not change anything.  Noel, can you continue with your #2 suggestions?

    Please first check that Vistalizator is not present in your system AT ALL – the test applied in the article only tests for the presence of other languages, not the presence of the hack itself, and it’s always possible that the system has had the original language ripped out. (did you purchase this machine direct from Dell in the US??)
    Unfortunately, I don’t have a suitable machine for testing the effects of adding and removing the hack.
    I suggest that you contact MS Support for assistance.

  • We are brand new school and bought all 76 brand new laptops from Dell in July 2011.   I just realized that this is happening even on the machines that are not imaged.  He is another MGAdiag log of one of our machines that the image was created on. Please let me know if anything jumps out at you.

    We are brand new school and bought all 76 brand new laptops from Dell in July 2011.   I just realized that this is happening even on the machines that are not imaged.  He is another MGAdiag log of one of our machines that the image was created on. Please let me know if anything jumps out at you.

  • Yes, when I right click on my computer and go to properties, it says window is activated, but in the bottom right corner there is a graphic that says "Ask for Genuine Microsoft Software".  Under that it says Learn more online, when you click that it brings me to a microsoft page that wants me to buy genuine microsoft.  This computer does take window updates, unlike the ones above.

    That is perfectly normal for an activated system – you seem to be good to go.
