Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

My laptop screen turned blank last night when I was using it. Upon rebooting, I received an error message that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine". I have been using this machine for over 2 years, so i'm not sure why this issue has suddenly occur.

Below is the diagnostic report. I have tried updating the BIOs and it doesn't solve the problem. I have also tried re-activating in the Product Key, but I get the error code 0xC004E003.

Tried that. I got another error code 0xC004E003.

That almost certainly means that you did not use the COA Key, but the Key found using a KeyFinder program – you MUST use the Key from your COA sticker.

If you did indeed use the COA Sticker Key, then you need to activate by telephone.
    telephone activation.
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

  • OEM SLP copies of Windows like yours need to link with the SLIC table in the BIOS in order to remain activated.  The manufacturer has provided a back up product key for when this fails.  Find the COA sticker affixed to the bottom of your computer or in the battery compartment.  Copy the product key.  Click Start, type "slui.exe 3" and hit Enter.  Follow the instructions.

  • Hello, Noel,

I have the identical problem, windows 7 software preinstalled on an HP touchsmart pc. There is a recovery partition that I used to reinstall windows 7 which resolved the error for a week or 2 but came back again. I have looked all over the PC and the box, there is no COA sticker. I bought the machine from John Lewis so there is no question of this being from a disreputable shop. I "found" the key from a key finder program but it will not activate.

HP were useless, sending me another set of disks that will wipe the hard drive and reinstall the op systems and partition. I refuse to go through the aggravation of reinstallation again. I have paid for the software and I resent this message telling me I am a thief.

    What do I do?

It would be VERY unlikely that you have an identical problem – please start a NEW thread of your own, and provide an MGADiag report.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
