Troubleshooting a WHS which doesn't boot anymore RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Dear community, my WHS (HP Datavault x312) doesn't boot anymore. The disks are green, chkdsk shows no errors or faulty sectors. Except LightsOut I ve no extra SW on it since it is quaite freshly re-installed using the original recovery disk.

I can access the F8 menu, choose the only one OS (which is not named Windows home Server but suprisingly "Server 2003 for Small Business Server". After selecting, the start-up logo of WHS appears and short after that the screen is dark, the boot disk ist still working (noises), but nothing happens.

I'm able to attach the boot disk to another (XP) computer. I coud change the start config - if I new how and what the problem could be

    thanks  a lot in advance.

  • If you attach the disk to another system, you can try to run chkdsk /f on it.

Are any errors are found during this check?  This would be an indicator that relevant system components are damaged and you need to reinstall your server.
