"The service is unavialable" when attempting to access DABS files

    Question

  • Hello,
I have an Office Communicator 2007 R2 Standard Edition server deployed on a Windows Server 2008 server.  While troubleshooting a "Cannot synchronize with teh corporate address book..." error I found the following symptomps.
    1. Galcontacts.db is not created on any client in the network
    2. Every client gets the following error when attempting to access a dabs file under https://ocspool/abs/int/handler/
    "The service is unavailable".
    3. All clients show as MAPI Status OK under Configuration information
    4. All clients are able to IM each other though the other user must be in their local contacts

I have tried the following steps
    1. On the computer that is running IIS, click Start, click Run, type inetmgr.msc, and then click OK.
    2. In the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, expand Application Pools, right-click LSGroupExpAppPool, and then click Properties.
    3. In the LSGroupExpAppPool Properties box, click the Identity tab.
    4. Verify the user name that is listed in the User name field. The user name must resemble the following user name:
      domain\RTCComponentService
    5. In the Password field, reenter the password for the RTCComponentServiceaccount, and then click OK.
    6. Right-click the LSGroupExpAppPool application pool object, and then click Start.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Nate

  • Deli,
I followed the outlined steps and updated the RTCComponentService password again and was then able to access the DABS files.  I am prompted to authenticate every time I access a DABS file directly and clients still display "Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book..." in addition to GALContacts.DB not being created on the local machine.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Nate

Many reasons can cause the issue, above just one reason, below is other suggestions you can do.
Per your description, when you attempting to access a dabs file under https://ocspool/abs/int/handler/ , it is failure. You do some troubleshooting on your server.
    1. ensure that you have configure the web components server iis certificate properly.
    2. you can use the ocs setupse.exe to validate web components server configuration, make sure there is no error
You can learn more methods about troubleshooting the related issue refer to below links:

There a couple of things you can look at. So you are saying you a prompted every time you try to access the URL for the GAL. based on this statement I have some questions for you.

the computer you are trying access this from is it on the domain?
    if so try the following
First add the URL to the IE internet options, Security, Local intranet zone. See if that fixes the prompting issue. If not post back.

If that does not fix the prompting  issue please take a look at the authenticaiton type being used IN IIS and post back.

I have run into this a couple of times and I always start down the path of authentication first. I want to see if I can download the addresss book manually.

normally just using a URL to the directory itself will fail. The directory is not browsable. so you have to know the file name you are trying to download and put that in the URL. As directed in the first article.

let us know what you find.
