Folding@Home add-in for WHS would be excellent! RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • My WHS is always on and mostly under low load. Ideal for running Folding@Home (FAH): http://folding.stanford.edu/

There's a specially developed FAH client for my PS3 - very powerful, but not always on. Perhaps some bright spark can organise a FAH client add-in for WHS? I'm confident that most WHS users would embrace it! Always good to give something back...

    Here's hoping!

  • Low load with the appropriate hardware means also less power consumption - which is a good thing in my opinion.
All non WHS related Add-Ins could touch the EULA, create a certain risk that WHS components are breaking and sometimes add to the power consuption of your WHS.

  • They list a 2003 version under downloads.  So in theory you could remote desktop to your WHS and install it..  Warning, this is not supported and could break WHS.  You've been warned!

  • I've been running the Windows XP/2003/Vista Console client  from Day 1 on my WHS build. Just be sure and run it as a Service, it won't "break" anything.
