Can another instance of SyncToyCmd.exe start when one is running? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to schedule backup using sync toy which takes up long period of time, about 6 hours. Can another instance of SyncToyCmd.exe (different folder pair & start and endpoints) start while the previous one has yet to complete?

    Example:

Pair 1 - Start at 1:00 am - approx 2 hrs. - will most prob end at 3:00am
Pair 2 - Start at 2:00 am - approx 6 hrs. - will most prob end at 8:00am

Question: will pair 2 start, since pair one will most like not finish before the time pair 2 is scheduled to start?

Pair 1 has been run once before 1:00 am, but is rerun on 1 am in order to sync new changes made.

    2nd Example
Pair 1 - Start at 1:00 am - approx 6 hrs. - will most prob end at 7:00 am
Pair 2 - Start at 3:00 am - approx 1 hrs. - will most prob end at 4:00 am

Question: will pair 2 start, since pair one will most like not finish before the time pair 2 is scheduled to start?

  • Yes, another instance(SyncToyCmd.exe) will start for a different folder pairs. After it is started when another instance is running, it could detect if there is a existing instance doing syncing for one folder pairs, and it will avoid to do sync for that existing syncing folder pairs too.

    Output info may like this:
    C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.1>SyncToyCmd.exe  -r
Folder pair 's' is being executed by another instance of SyncToy.
    Preview of d (C:\, F:\d\) in time 00:19:13:
    SyncToy action was 'Echo'
    Found 123065 actions to perform.
Found 0 files that did not require action.
    ...............
