2 Windows Home Servers at different locations backing up the same clients (without re-installing clients) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have bought 2 Windows Home Servers. I have one server in my home, and the other one in another location several miles away.
Both Servers has same LAN ip, and name.
    My question is this:
When I take my laptop from my home to the other location I must reinstall server connection software every time to make the backup work.
    That is annoying.

Is it possible to clone the connector software settings in the both servers? The servers will never be connected on the same LAN.

You don't have to reinstall the connector software every time.  Just run C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\Discovery.exe.

No.  A client can only be connected to one server at a time.  My suggestion is to either A) backup at only one location (this is what I would do) or B) create a batch file that runs the exe I listed above, then run the batch every time you move your laptop from one server to the other.

The servers will never be connected on the same LAN.
