  • Yes, This also counterfeit, just as your other one. It will become blocked sooner or later.

    Windows Product ID: 00426-068-3284074-86417

the product ID -068- is the indicator of a not for resale MSDN account.

Same answers as in your other post

  • Thanks, I have reported the seller and filed a claim. I hope that he will be prevented from selling any more copies for a while at least.

  • Hi George1009,

I am pursuing a claim but need to prove that this item is indeed counterfit and not intended for reasle.  How would I get a Microsoft Letterhead stating your conclusion on the information that I have given you.  PayPal is playing hardball and want me to return the fake items to the criminal who sold it in the first place.

Doing the right thing looks like it is going to be painful.

    Cheers,

You won't get anything in a letterhead from MS unless you send them the counterfeit for examination - in the past eBay and PayPal have always accepted links to this forum as sufficient.
If they have changed that, then they should have at least discussed it with MS and made channels available.
Another option is to see if you can get your local police to sign a declaration  - and checking with PayPal whether they'll accept notice of destruction, since the goods are fraudulent.

  • EBay and PayPal (same outfit basically) have always required return of the "defective" item to the seller in order to guarantee a refund by the seller if the seller requires it as part of the resolution.  If the seller refuses to cooperate then they don't expect the return.

The kicker is that they don't require the seller to pay for this and they ask for the tracking number so that they know when the seller has received the item.  It cost me $40 to return my counterfeit copy (UPS ground to the seller in Toronto) and I was only refunded my purchase price (shipping had been free).

Don't think that being in possession of the counterfeit product helps Microsoft prosecute in any way so don't worry about returning it.  Microsoft has to purchase the item so that there is a provable chain of possession sufficient to use as evidence in a prosecution.

  • Thanks for the input. I have sent them a link to this forum as proof and am waiting their response.  We will see. The moral of the story, buy software through the right channels.

Thanks and I will keep you posted,

  • It looks like PayPal are not happy to accept your analysis that the software is a copy.  I would like to understand what avenues are available with Microsoft here?  PayPal want a 3rd party evaluation but I have told them that only Microsoft can make that call, i.e. you know the license codes and their use.  I am assuming that the moderators are employed by Microsoft?  Does anyone have any advise on my options?  I am just a bit put off having to post an item which is a copy back to the seller who could put it back into circulation. I also think that the return address is probably bogus too.

Darin is the only MS Employee regularly on this forum (the rest of us are volunteers). He will be looking at this post later, and can make a statement then. However he is not allowed to do anything outside the forum as far as I am aware, and MS will not make a written statement beyond that without being in possession of the actual materials.

You can check the return address in Google Earth to see whether it exists :)
