rundll32.exe problem in XP

Question
-
I have a problem with rundll32.exe, or anything that needs to use it to open. I have tried changing the Nero files as suggested in the forum - no change! Running "msconfig" just brings up the wizard "Open with..." showing programme files, none of which will do the job. I have tried using the "expand D..." option, but that made no difference. I tried system restore, but that was "open with.." again. I have found rundll32.exe elsewhere on my computer and copied them across, and copied them from the setup disc - all no difference. It seems there may be a component missing that deals with .exe files, but why has it suddenly gone if that's the case?
Any suggestions?
P.

I'd create an integrated installation point and run a repair installation from that source. (use the current service pack level for creating the integrated installation point)
