Antivirus Soft-How to remove? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • This has been installed eroneously on one of our work computers that we are protected by Microsoft Essentials, if you can give me direction on correcting this problem.  If you are not familiar this antivirus soft basically takes over your computer requesting you buy a their software in order to correct the problem.

Any direction to remove this form the C:Prompt would be great and Windows does not allow access with this antivirus soft installed.

    Thank you!

  • MSE is not the issue here.  You have been infected by a rogue product that fools people into installing it.

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ and look for the removal there.

I did not get fooled into intalling anything.  It installed itself.

  • "Fooled" may have sounded like you were tricked. No, these infections are miserable drive-by infections where a web site is infected (often through an ad placed on the site via a 3rd party service) and the pop-up that is delivered to you infects your PC if you so much as touch it, even to close it down. The only way to prevent infection is to shut down the browser through Task Manager or reboot the PC, forcing the shut down. There have been reports of some infections happening with *no* interaction from the user at all.
