Does WHS care if the 'DATA' drives were re-ordered on the motherboard SATA ports? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My AMD WHS system contained three hard drives.   I just installed a 1.5TB Seagate drive (drive #4), it seems to be working fine.  Now I want to remove the smallest drive, which is drive #2 (320GB).  After I remove drive #2 (physically), I want to move the cables 'up' on the motherboard so the SATA port #4 is empty again.  Does anyone know if this will cause a problem?

It is my intention to have a 1.5TB drive on every SATA port, so I would like to keep things simple for troubleshooting purposes, if I ever need to in the future.  My mid-tower case is capable of holding seven hard drives vertically.

    Thanks,
    Sammie

  • Hi Sammie,
this should work, since WHS remembers the volume ID.
Only for the primary drive the port is crucial.
