  • Mousie Mai,

Please follow these steps for assistance:

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.  The report does not reveal any personally identifiable information and it obscures the Product Keys for your installed software.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of  Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).  If you have one, tell us about the CoA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key printed on the CoA.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

  • A "Blocked VLK" is a Volume License Key that is valid, but was licensed solely to a corporation or larger enterprise/business. Blocked VLK's are Product Keys that Microsoft has received consent from the original owner to block usage of. A VL Product Key is non-transferrable to individuals. In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, click on the Get Genuine button which will provide information on your available options which include how to acquire a WGA Kit.

If you indeed have a genuine version of Windows XP Home Edition, it can be installed by performing a "clean install".

  • Clown,

Please activate Windows XP by calling a Microsoft customer service representative. The

Activation Wizard displays the toll free number that you can dial.

To contact a Microsoft customer service representative and activate Windows by phone, follow

    these steps:

    1. Click “Start”, point to” All Programs”, point to “Accessories”, point to” System Tools”,

    and then click “Activate Windows”.
Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Click “Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement”, click “Back”, and then

    click “Next”
    .
    4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box and then click “Next”.
Note:  The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5. Once activation is completed and you receive the following message, click “OK”.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.
More information on how to activate Windows XP at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890
Also you may reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.If you are done with the activation, kindly proceed in

validating the copy of your software by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine .  Click

    “Validate Windows” button.
Please post again if you need further assistance. Thank you.

    Wedmo,

This is an issue with your XML services on the computer.  If you compare your

Diagnostic Report to others on the forum, you will notice that yours is missing a bunch of

text below the "Office Details" line. We commonly refer to this area as the XML blob. This is

caused by a missing Registry Key.
I will provide you the steps to resolve this XML issue.

     Fix (Part 1):

    1) Click “Start” button, then “Run”
    2) In the Run window, Type: regsvr32 msxml3.dll  <Click OK>
(Note: This will register the msxml3.dll and the registry entry

    ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSXML.DOMDocument’ will be generated)
If this does not work, the msxml3.dll may be missing or corrupt. Follow the below Fix

    (Part 2), in that case:

     Fix (Part 2):

    1) Go to the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7) download page at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=28494391-052b-42ff-9674-f752bdca9582

    &DisplayLang=en
    2) From the files available, download “msxml3.msi”
    3) Double click the file and follow the steps to install.
    4) Click “Start” button, then “Run...”
    5) In the Run window, Type: regsvr32 msxml3.dll  <Click OK>

Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk prior

making any changes in the registry. You should be okay because the files are being registried

and no changes but still a good idea to ensure any critical data is saved. Please let us know

if the above steps resolved your issues. Have a great weekend.

    Thank you

    All,

I fixed my validation problem by correcting an issue with my MSXML DLL files.  They must have been corrupted.  Here is the link I used to find the correction to the issue.  Please note you will need a working computer with MS XP to copy three files over to the non-working computer.  Here is the link:

    Thank you

    Stephen,

I have a similar issue with my msxml3. I ran through the first steps that you mentioned and that did not work...  I performed the next steps and ran the regsvr32 msxml3.dll again and the error was reported as:

    RegSvr32

LoadLibrary ("msxml3.dll") failed- A dynamic link Library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

Do you have any advice on what to do?

Could this be causing the validation problems?

    Thanks,

    Ben

    All,

I fixed my validation problem by correcting an issue with my MSXML DLL files.  They must have been corrupted.  Here is the link I used to find the correction to the issue.  Please note you will need a working computer with MS XP to copy three files over to the non-working computer.  Here is the link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836982

Thanks for all the help provided....
