  • There is a service that is not started.

The Win32 error:1060 error is very common in program installations.  There is a prerequisite that is not running.

  • I get this too running setupclient.exe for CRM 2013, it lays down SQL Server Express 2008 but could not find the instance it supposedly just created?

The service MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS was disabled by group policy in our environment, if CRM 2011 wasn't being used so had to enable the service before running setupclient, which reinstalls SQL Server 2008 Express but does not change service status. Seems like Microsoft could enable it during the install.
