IMPORTANT: New WorldWide Telescope (WWT) Windows Client (5.2 Gold) Released. Please Upgrade!

    Question

  • In conjunction with open-sourcing the Worldwide Telescope code, we have released a new Windows Client (version 5.2 Gold).

The download may be found here: http://worldwidetelescope.org/Download

WWT 5.2 Gold is compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.  (Not Windows XP!)

You will need the .NET Framework 4.5.1 or later.  (If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, you already have it.)

If you do not have it installed, it is available here:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40773

We strongly encourage everyone to upgrade to the new release.  In addition to numerous bug fixes, it introduces a new Community and Tours system that is now cloud-based, in Azure.   The Worldwide Telescope website, supporting services and data have also been migrated to Azure.   The WWT webclient features numerous fixes as well.

The old community and tours system (layerscape.org) has been deprecated and will soon be decommissioned.   Existing Community Content and tours have been migrated to the new WWT-hosted facility.    You may authenticate to the new system with your existing LiveID (Microsoft Account), or create a new one if required.

If you are a developer who wishes to be involved in enhancing the capabilities of the WWT, please read the official announcement below!
