  • Question

  • Bought a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed.  Never touched it but for the past 6 months or so I've been getting the "This computer is not running genuine Windows Error".  Calls to Sony support have not been successful and this is a very annoying error that continues to pop-up.

Ran sfc /scannow and it stated that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

Here's the support log - please advise

Your problem cause is highlighted above.
The fact that the file appears in the File Scan Data section means that it's the file itself which is the problem.
I would normally have recommended an SFC scan - but you say you've already done one.

    try a
    CHKDSK C:   /F
    from an admin command prompt.
you'll need to confirm and reboot.

Other than that, you can try replacing the file with a known=good version from a fully-functional system, if you're feeling confident :)
