Unable to access my Acer WHS after enabling firewall RRS feed

  • Question

  • My windows 7 system has WHS Console installed and it kept giving me the firewall error.  I used remote desktop and went into my WHS and restored my firewall settings to the default settings.  I rebooted and now I am blocked out of my WHS.  I can see the WHS under network places and it has an IP address assigned to it from my router, yet I can not access anything whatsoever from it.  At this point I have no idea how to fix this problem without wiping all my data.  Any suggestions?

  • The only solution for this problem is a server reinstall, please read Acer manual for instructions.

Also please note Acre instructions are not 100% correct, please read this post for correct procedure.

  • From the Acer Manual:

In Server Recovery, the home server’s system settings and user accounts will be lost. When you select the Factory Reset option, all data on the home server’s hard drives will be lost.

So please do NOT select Factory reset.

No idea why this (firewall error) popped up, I would need much more details (precise error description) and even then it may be hard to diagnose remotely.

  • Sure you waited long enough (step 5, WAIT patiently until you see the network icon, on the front of the unit, flash BLUE) before you proceeded?

If yes you could try running this process from another client or use a direct (UTP) cable connection between the client and the server.

Vail is beta, there's no official upgrade path from v1 to Vail so no please don't upgrade unless you want to play around with Vail and don't mind risking your data.
