Tracing does not appear in Exception Dialog RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have developed a plug-in that runs in sandbox mode. The plugin writes trace messages using ITrace. we then throw an InvalidPluginExecutionException. the trace does not appear in the Exception Dialog and there is no button to copy the trace log.

    What could be causing this?

  • We verified that there was no try/catch or other alerts.

is there a server setting that we need to change?

  • Hey there. iTracingService is not to display error happened in the exception dialog, but to help developer find out the problem and where the error occurred in code. The details can be found in the instance of the executed plugin in system jobs as a failed job. From there, you should be able to see all your trace there. Hope this helps. Regards, Jaimie

  • I think your observation turned out to be right on.

    we discovered the problem:

while the form we are on is the account form, the jscript code we wrote in the event on the form was calling a crm web service (via SOAP) to create a record of another entity. the plugin fires on the create of the other entity. thus when the trace returned it was in the xml and did not return as an exception. if we look at the node in the XML, the entire trace is there. we can display the trace in the alert message, but not download the file.

    thanks for your help
