NO PRODUCT KEY WITH MY DISK RRS feed

  • Question

  • I HAVE TO REPLACE MY HARD DRIVE AND OPERATING SYSTEM, I HAVE A XP PROF DISK WITH NO PRODUCT KEY NUMBER TO TYPE IN WHEN INSTALLING. HOW TO GET MY PRODUCT KEY FOR MY DISK I BOUGHT WITH THE COMPUTER, THE TAG ON COMPUTER IS UNREADABLE AND THE DISK HOLDER FOR THE XP DISK IS LONG SINCE GONE. I BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER IN 2005, I JUST NEED TO RELOAD MY OPERATING SYSTEM. CAN I CALL AND GET A TEMPORARY NUMBER UNTIL I LOAD MY DISK THEN ACTIVATE IT WITH THE CORRECT PRODUCT KEY NUMBER?

  • Hello bettybrodoski,

Product keys for consumer editions of windows can be found either on the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to the computer (on the bottom of laptops), or on the yellow-orange sticker affixed to the CD holder folder than comes inside the standard retail packaging for retail copies of Windows XP.

  • This is similar to the problem I'm having right now - I need to reinstall XP Pro on my lenovo thinkpad, but the factory install used a generic product key that I can't use and the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop has worn off completely. Is there any way I can reinstall XP short of buying another license? Also, I have an XP Pro license on an old desktop that I no longer use - can I just transfer that license over to my laptop?

Use the Recovery/reinstallation CDs as provided by Lenovo.
