Unprovoked wga request to activate RRS feed

  • Question

  • No prior issues observed, the PC has an OEM windows xp home, validated and running IE7 - turned off one night next,  morning it boots up and immediatly says "this copy of windows must be activated by microsoft.....  when you press "yes" it brings up the standard XP background and the activate windows window with nothing in it apart from a picture holder in each of the top corners.  We obviously cant continue.

Hardware has been checked and tested ok with Microscope dignostics program and weve taken the hard drive out and virus checked it on another pc.

It will boot up in to safe mode.

Reloading over the top makes no difference.

Does anyone have any pointers before we contemplate other options?

    thank you in advance.

  • Thanks for the response but no, we had tried that.  Time being of the essense and only ever needing to write letters we
    have reloaded from scratch.

naturally we are now running open office on Ubuntu and the only difference we have so far noticed is that we can now write letters.

  • Spiggys-cat,

A clean installation of your Windows would have accomplished the same thing.
